I am very honored that my quilt "Game On" was chosen for the magazine. I have been designing quilt patterns full time now for 6 years and I still love my job. Many designers design with actual fabric in hand but I use digital images and design on my computer. I find it so much easier to move fabrics and colors around and to quickly switch out blocks or fabrics that just aren't working.
My quilt design "Game On" was inspired by my two sons who both love to game. Boys usually get short changed in the quilt department with lots of quilts featuring flowers and other girly inspired images. So this time I tried to focus on the boys and this is what I came up with. (Not to say that there aren't girl gamers out there, just not my girls)
The design itself was inspired by Pac Man (showing my age there) and the new popular game consoles to appeal to the widest range of gamers out there. I have used Moda fabrics from three different fabric groups but any bright colored fabrics would do.
The applique shapes are very large. In fact, I didn't really realize how large they were until I made the quilt! However, being large makes them easy to make and they add a nice pop of color to the otherwise black and white background.
If you like my design, please visit my website at www.coachhousedesigns.com. I have many new patterns under my What's New Section and by the end of next week, there should be 34 new patterns there which I am working night and day to make samples for Quilt Market.
Enough about me, who wants to win some fabric!
